Having lived in Greeley for many years, I have loved building my community and family in West Greeley. I currently partner with the City of Greeley to offer classes at the Rec Center and Active Adult Center. This is my home, and I look forward to continue to offer classes in my home city.
Ruler Tai Chi™ is the evolution and extension of the tai chi ruler qigong form. Although there are many qigong forms that use the tai chi ruler for ch’i(qi) cultivation, historic literature does not document fighting with the ruler, nor has it been passed down through a martial arts family.
Unable to find any trace of how the ruler might be used to take on an opponent, I created my own forms based upon the Yang family short form, as developed by Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing (Zheng Manqing). The ruler fighting forms adhere to the principles of tai chi chuan and can take on an opponent wielding either traditional or modern weapons.
I’ve been teaching Ruler Tai Chi™ classes in Greeley and Northern Colorado for 30 years, and participants experience a variety of benefits. Whether we’ve had the pleasure of sharing in a group class in Greeley or an online course, practitioners of Ruler Tai Chi™ find increased mobility and revitalized energy, and their minds and bodies are engaged in a new and exciting way.
The movements of Ruler Tai Chi™ are designed to move vital energy (qi) through your body in the proper way according to the principles of Oriental medicine. At the end of your session you will feel relaxed and refreshed—not sore and tired. It’s the perfect exercise for the martial artist in Northern Colorado who is injured and recovering, or facing the challenges of an aging body.
Many martial arts have a sense of grimness and determination to them. Ruler Tai Chi is a pleasure to learn. The movements are slow and relaxed––you must stay loose and flexible to perform them. And yes, you can use the ruler for combat. But unlike some traditional weapons, the device itself, a short wooden dowel, is pleasing to hold and easy to wield. Ruler Tai Chi™ classes in Greeley or online engage the participant’s mind and body in a unique way.
If you are already a long-time student or practitioner of another martial art form, you may now find it stale and lifeless. A daily round of Ruler Tai Chi™ will shake up your practice routine, and may even breathe new life into your current martial art study. Practice Ruler Tai Chi™ from the comfort of your own home with online courses that fit into any lifestyle, or join an in-person class or workshop in Northern Colorado.
As someone who has practiced tai chi for decades and as the creator of the new Ruler Tai Chi form, I see benefits to practicing a variety of tai chi and martial arts forms. I’m always offering different courses and workshops around Northern Colorado, so please refer to my website and view the course calendar for updates. In addition to one-time workshops and online offerings, I’m often teaching ongoing classes, including:
